The Giants Are One Win Away From A World Championship

It isn’t supposed to be this easy.

Barry Zito. The Tigers offense has been nonexistent. Miguel Cabrera has been Dimitri Young. Prince Fielder is hitting like he ate Delmon Young. The Giants have outscored the Tigers 12-3 in the series. The Giants have won 6 straight games. They had one 6 game winning streak all season. Tigers were shutout two straight times. They were shutout two times all season.  The Giants starters have allowed 1 run in the World Series. The Giants have not trailed in the World Series. The Giants have not trailed in 56 innings. Coming into the series the Tigers had not trailed in 56 innings. Barry Zito outdueled Justin Verlander. In the last 6 games, the Giants have outscored their opponents 32-4.

3 weeks ago tomorrow, Bronson Arroyo threw a 1 hitter against the Giants, giving the Reds a 2-0 division series lead. In the next game, Homer Bailey also 1 hit the Giants. In that game, the Reds had the series winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning.

At this time tomorrow, the Giants could be World Series Champions.

There is a part of me that can’t imagine anything different. I watched teams who are up 3-0 in the World Series. Game 4 is usually just a formality. This series should be over. There is an arrogant part of me that has confidence oozing out of its pores.

Then there is the part that realizes if the Tigers win tomorrow, they have Justin Verlander the next day, who is going to pitch against Barry Zito and there is like, no way Barry Zito could ever outpitch Justin Verlander. And after that, everything can get funky, which is especially scary after watching the Giants play 2 of the funkiest of funky series. World Series are not supposed to be as worry free and easy going as this one has been. Breaks are supposed to balance out. Why am I sweating all of the sudden.

The confident part of me is prevailing right now. The Giants look like they can do no wrong and the starting pitching is finding a groove that they haven’t had all season. Also Matt Cain. But Scherzer and Verlander might now allow a run for the rest of their lives which is concerning to me. At least for now however, at 2:52 am on Saturday night, I am confident and cannot imagine what a loss would feel like, let alone 4 in a row. That’s just the honest truth.

Now that I’ve jinxed every last particle of Giants baseball, tomorrow I’m going to sit in the corner and watch the game like this.

24 hours from now the Giants could be World Champions. Hunter Pence's true species will be revealed. So much to look forward to.
