Here's a picture of Matt Cain's perfect game. |
This was a baseball game. There were some runs and pitches and things of that ilk. Ryan Theriot made some spectacular soccer saves while playing baseball defense. Danny Espinosa and Kurt Suzuki were unstoppable
forces. In the 9th inning, Comcast was showing a picture of Duane
Kuiper half naked wearing high rising jean shorts. Chad Tracy wandered into the
game at some point.
There is your game summary. Because blowup, suckfest game like this are bound to happen, and they are all an oasis of anomalies. Did you have any takeaways from
that game? Why are you still thinking about that game? NASA is embarking on a
journey through Mars and you are concerned with the sports games. You are the problem
in America.

All that said, the Ryan Vogelsong performance was
noteworthy, in that it shouldn’t be noteworthy. If there’s any pitcher on the
Giants staff that is allowed to have a start like this it’s Ryan Vogelsong.
Tonight ends his 22 straight stars of pitching 6 or more innings. While he
pitched poorly tonight, his mistakes were magnified by defensive miscues, some
via Ryan Theriot, and some via Marco Scutaro. Who knows what would have
happened if some of those infield and seeing eye ground balls were converted
into outs.
But then again, Vogelsong did have a .246 BABIP coming into
this game, as opposed to the .280 BABIP he posted last season. The unlucky
bounces shouldn’t be all that surprising and regression was bound to happen. He
also had the highest strand rate in baseball (84.2%), which isn’t very
sustainable either especially for a pitcher that isn’t a strike out machine.
But back to my original point, Vogelsong is allowed to have
these. BABIP and LOB% aside, his tenure as a Giants has been remarkable. And
while he may be coming back to earth a little bit (4 ER or more 2 of last 3
starts), he’s done more than enough the past 2 seasons to prove he’s a premier
pitcher these days. Except for tonight.

I don't know where this belongs, but it seemed lost, so I found it a home! He lives in this post now. Nothing I can do about it.
